We are with Venezuela

Date: 2022 08th November

Areas:
Peace

Age:

  • 3-5
  • 6-8

Objectives :

  1. To know and support the educational, pastoral and transformative work of the project in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, supported by the Itaka-Escolapios network, in order to take co-responsibility for its mission and contribute to cover the ordinary expenses that allow its viability.

  2. To highlight, review and promote the transforming character of the Piarist centres, also offering EDUCA, as a supporting and connecting network of educational centres for social transformation.
  3. To contribute by raising awareness among children from 3 to 7 years in our centres that carry out the proposed campaign, so that they can take steps forward to become more piarist and transformative centres, in line with the proposal of the Global Education Pact that invites us to listen to the young generations for the construction of a dignified life for all.
  4. To facilitate the understanding of these projects and missions to the younger ones, presenting volunteering as a way of life.

VENEZUELA PROJECT (FEEL – IMAGINE – CHANGE)

We use the Feel - Imagine - Change format to create the activity and make it easy for the children to understand. In each of the stages we will do the following:

FEEL: Present the country reality and how the volunteers work

(NOTES TO THE TEACHER: It is important to review the project sheet presented in Annex 1).

The idea is to make an adapted explanation to the children, creating a brief dialogue with them, asking them questions that can help them understand the situation in Venezuela and the need for the Itaka-Escolapios mission in Venezuela.

"When you want to drink water or eat something, what do you do? Go to the kitchen because there is water in the tap and food in the fridge, right? But do you know that there are places that don't have these facilities? Because of conflicts and wars there are people who live without any privileges.

What happens when there is conflict? There are people who need help, but there are also people who help. Have you ever had a fight with your brothers/friends and someone came to help you? Well, that is what Itaka volunteers in Venezuela do, providing their services to the community. But they also need our support and love".

MAGINE: Activity

The children will draw and cut out their hand on a sheet of paper. Each hand will be painted with one of the colours of the Venezuelan flag (yellow, blue, red: ANNEX FLAG), so that there are several hands of each colour. They can write messages or supportive and loving words on those hands, imagining the needs of these volunteers who are helping there. Older children can do the same with paper dolls (tutoria at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWYKDwHYdhk)

CHANGE: Supporting poster

The hands or dolls they have made before, they will glue them on a big poster creating the Venezuelan flag. This poster can be placed on the walls of the classroom or hallway and shared on the school's social networks to show support for the Itaka Escolapios volunteers.

In order to share this content on social networks, which can be done through the Official Accounts of the different schools, we invite you to use the hashtags: #OneVoiceOneMillionChanges / #PeaceMission / #ItakaEscolapios and to mention the Official Account of Itaka Escolapios: @reditakaescolapios.

OPTIONAL: ACT OF PEACE / CENTRAL EVENT

If the school is holding a Central Event to commemorate the DENIP (30 January), you can try to create a choreography to the Solidarity Campaign song: YOUR VOICE (enlace a la canción)  download in LINK TO THE SONG).

In case of a Central Act for Peace, children are invited to present their posters with the Venezuelan flag and, as a celebration for Peace, they can show their choreographies and dances with the song of the campaign launched by Itaka-Escolapios: 'One voice, a million changes'.
