– To make the work of Itaka Escolapios and its projects known in the surrounding area.

– To collaborate in the Itaka Escolapios solidarity campaign.

– To publicise the activities that the school/work programmes in the context of the campaign.

Sometimes it seems that the smallest of our schools or projects have little capacity to generate activities that have an impact on the environment. With this small service-learning proposal we intend to achieve a double objective. On the one hand, to demonstrate that children can also modify their environment and collaborate, from their possibilities, in the creation of a more just and fraternal Common Home. On the other hand, the project aims to show 6 and 7 year old children that they can do many things to improve the world and that, sometimes, their role is fundamental. With this second objective, we want to make them true protagonists of the essential change. And, of course, since this is a service-learning project students will acquire competencies and curricular content. Although the proposal is developed and planned from Spain, we believe that the competencies and contents to be worked on will be common to other countries and Piarist demarcations.  

For the development of the project, 6 activities have been designed, which we recommend being carried out over a period of ten weeks, if possible, according to the following schedule: 

  • ACTIVITY 1: Swings
  • ACTIVITY 2: Four little corners
  • ACTIVITY 3: World map
  • ACTIVITY 4: Prepare the solidarity parade
  • ACTIVITY 5: Roqui’s anger
  • ACTIVITY 6: Characters 

 It is key to keep in mind that during the development of this project it is not necessary to dedicate all the time of school to carry it out, because only a few hours a week will be needed. And, of course, it should be clarified that each centre should decide the sessions and activities to be developed according to the programming of the various subjects involved, although of course we recommend carrying out the entire project. Naturally, you must make the project your own and adjust it to the reality of each centre and each group-classroom.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you cannot work with the service-learning methodology, and you need a simpler proposal, we have foreseen that, at least, you can work on the solidarity campaign by carrying out activities 1 and 4, as well as some activities related to one of our projects.
